What is HCG?

 The HCG diet was discovered quite by accident by Doctor A.T.W. Simeons over 50 years ago as he worked to cure malnutrition in underdeveloped villages.

, or human chorionic gonadotropin is the hormone that Simeons discovered in pregnant women.

While observing healthy women during their pregnancy, he noticed that as soon as the child was born, the health of the mother began to deteriorate. There had to be a reason and this is when HCG was discovered.

This naturally occurring hormone is created by the body to nourish and protect the fetus by taking the stored fat reserves and changing to nutrition for the placenta. If this new discovery could actually drain fat cells and transform to positive natural energy, it might actually help people with obesity.


How does HCG work?

There are three different types of fat found in the body.

Structural fat is found nestled between the skin and organs and is necessary as a protective layer.

Normal reserve fat is the layer that supplies the body with energy when calorie intake is too low.

The abnormal fat is what forms as extra fat in hips, waist, thighs and buttocks and is not used for anything. This is the only fat that is consumed by HCG.

Many ask why a low calorie diet would not lead to the same results. The facts are simple.

By starving your body of protein and vitamins, it will take whatever is needed from any type of fat, including structural and normal reserve fats. This is why once you stop a low calorie diet, not only are lean muscles destroyed but the weight comes back with a vengeance as abnormal fat. Nothing was really accomplished except for redistributing the fat.



What Is The HCG Diet and What Are Benefits?

Phase 1 of the HCG Diet

Loading Phase.

During this phase you begin taking HCG drops and "load" by gorging on high-fat foods to replenish your healthy reserve fat.

This phase takes up the first two days of the HCG diet plan. This is like the initiation phase of your HCG diet. The main difference between your normal eating habits and Phase 1 of the HCG diet plan is that you take the HCG drops under your tongue in the morning, afternoon, and evening.

  •  Place 10 small HCG droplets under your tongue three times a day, and leave them there for 15 seconds or so before swallowing.




Phase 2 of HCG Diet



Core Phase.

These are the 500-calorie diet days where you'll lose most of your weight.

  • Continue taking HCG drops every day. This phase can last anywhere from 15 to 45 days depending on how much weight you want to lose.
  • Continue the 500-calorie diet, but stop taking HCG drops to allow the HCG to work its way out of your system.
  • It takes 3 days to flush the drops out of your system so discontinue taking drops 3 days before you start phase 3.





Phase 3 of HCG Diet


Stabilization Phase.

 Phase 3 is called  the Stabilization Phase because it takes 21 days (3 weeks) to reset your metabolism and to stabilize your new weight so you won't regain.



  • You can eat whatever you want except sugars and starches.
  •  No more HCG drops necessary—you're done with them unless you want to start the diet again at a later time to lose even more weight.
  • Remember to continue with the 500 calorie plan for a further 3 days as your metabolism is still regulating and it takes 3 days to flush drops out of your system




Phase 4 of HCG Diet


Maintenance Phase.

During this time you return to a normal diet and maintain your new weight indefinitely.

  • No HCG drops, and no dieting restrictions.
  • Avoid starches and refined sugars
  • Avoid excessive exercise which will cause you to feel hungry and over eat
  • Go on a 30minute walk if you feel you need to exercise however, on this plan you don't have to
  • Do not skip meals
  • After a minimum of 21 days (3 weeks) you can start another round of the HCG drops diet.


What is a round?


People with more than 30 pounds to lose often need to go through the HCG diet multiple times. Each time doing the diet is usually called a "round" or "course." This has resulted in an interesting code that people in the HCG dieting community use to indicate which round and phase they are currently on. They shorten round, phase, and day to the first letter followed by a number, like this:

R1P2D3 = Round 1, Phase 2, Day 3 (the first day of the Core Phase above)
R2P3D12 = Round 2, Phase 3, Day 12 (the twelfth day of the Stabilization Phase)




Hunger Pains

Hunger pains can be felt on the first couple of days on the 500-calorie diet; this is fairly normal and should go away as you continue on the HCG diet plan. Remember to drink a 3 litres (8 glasses) of water a day. If you find that your hunger pains appear regularly at a certain time each day, eat one of your allowed fruit courses 30 minutes before that time.




Constipation


If you become constipated or feel like you're not losing weight on the HCG diet plan, devote one day to eating nothing but six apples--and be sure to consume a 3 litres (8 Cups) of water.




Weighing Yourself


Throughout every phase of the HCG diet plan, and after you're on your maintenance program, you should weight yourself regularly but only in the morning, preferably before you eat and after a bowel movement. Weights vary through the day, so the morning should become your barometer. Try to use a digital scale so the readings are consistent.




Menstruation


Women who are menstruating should not restrict their diets but eat normally. However, you still should consume your HCG drops three times a day. If you stay on the 500-calorie diet, you will not feel right. You must eat healthily and normally until the menstruation period ends.
